Katrina Victim Card Played Again by City Officials

Here we go again people, Mayor Ray Nagin uses his "Katrina Victim Card" in another feeble attempt to get sympathy for New Orleans. It was announced earlier this week that New Orleans wouldn't get to host one of the upcoming Presidential Debates. A Federal Official stated that New Orleans had not recovered enough to host this event. Local talk radio and others went blasting away at this comment as if someone had just slapped them in the face. Well guess what? New Orleans is not ready to host an event of this nature or any other. Local leaders talk as if everything in this city is good enough for a national event like this but they forget the main reason, I think, that this event was sent elsewhere. That reason is CRIME. Let's just take a look at a few facts. First, New Orleans has a population of around 500,000 people and has had almost 200 murders so far this year. I think the number is higher as a few month ago statistics were brought to light saying that they didn't consider it a murder if the victim was not dead at the scene when police arrived. The murder rate here is so bad that a person is less likely to be killed in Iraq than in New Orleans. Now let's go to New York City. It has a population of around 8,500,000 and has had 420 murders this year. Ok people I know that leap test scores show a delinquency in math in this state but just look at the numbers. It is a wonder that anybody is still in this city. I think we should use the Democrat Harry Reid's philosophy...."The war is lost we need to get our troops out now." New Orleans will continue to be lost in a quagmire until its citizens demand that their leaders do something and quit trying to play the victim and blame the Federal Government.

New Orleans Officials Praise Themselves for a Job Done Wrong

Leaders in New Orleans today, praise themselves for finally settling a racial discrimination lawsuit against the District Attorney's Office. Well guess what? The city again had to be bailed out by another government agency, this time it was the State of Louisiana, for a problem that should have been settled long ago. It is only going to cost taxpayers 1.6 million dollars to pay off a 3.2 million dollar lawsuit. The City of New Orleans is going to "loan" the DA's office 1 million dollars against future fines the office brings in. FACT: If the city had paid this judgement when it was first brought about, the total amount would have only been 1.6 million. Wow, great job guys for putting off another one of your failures onto others. At least this time it is not my tax dollars that will be waisted in this idiotic bailout. I hope every person in Louisiana likes where their tax dollars, money that could be helping the recovery effort, is being waisted. This is one of the many reason's why I say that the Federal Government should not give more of my money to be squandered in Louisiana. I believe a lot of people need help in Louisiana. But my Federal tax money should not be used until the people of Louisiana get their own house in order.

The biggest Myth about New Orleans

The biggest myth filtering through the media is that there are no jobs here since Katrina hit 2 years ago. Well, I have worked here for over 7 years now. Before Katrina there was a lot of competition in my field, I am a steward working for a catering company that serves the off shore oil and gas industry, and our jobs were plentiful and with plenty of people to fill them. This meant our salaries were among the lowest in the oil industry. Since Katrina I have seen my salary grow by over 45%. After Katrina hit, the oil and gas industry exploded with more work than there were people. This explosion is still going on today. My company, as well as most of the construction and service companies down here are begging for help. Many are still getting a large part of their work force from the prison release system where inmates that are about to get out of prison go and work. These companies are begging for help to this day. My own company recently told me that I could not have time off work because there was not a relief steward available. So before believing the myths that people can't find jobs here and giving to "help the poor victims because there are no jobs here" do your homework and put your donation to something that will actually be a benefit to someone.
